Yoga is a journey. It calls upon our most inward motivations, stirring us to listen to our thoughts and act on our beliefs. Practicing yoga cultivates an open (yogi) mind which can help us break free from many of our self-imposed, personal limitations. It prods us fine tune the awareness we have of our self-created realities in our lives and assists us in removing the negative influences and barriers our environment may impose on us.
The yogi mind is one of confidence, peace, love, wisdom, compassion and empathy. Taking your first step in this journey to cultivate the yogi mind will empower you like you have never felt before and guide you towards a deeper level of personal understanding and growth. As you begin to see yourself for maybe the first time, new or hidden emotions may arise that call for even more honesty in our relationship with ourselves.
Your journey towards developing a yogi mind can take a lifetime, as the process is ongoing. Being willing to learn or relearn bad habits and surrendering fresh perspectives will allow you to not merely change your mind and body, but it will enable you to reach the essence of who you are in your best state of being.
A yogi's mind and body does not appear overnight but takes time to develop. However, change is not the ultimate goal. Although different for everyone, your destination is to find a deeper understanding of your body and mind as they are today and to accept the journey as a mindful part of who you are and plan to be in the future. Having this control can be empowering and can help to motivate you to continue learning and mastering the postures.
Regardless of your personal level of athleticism, you will find that yoga will teach you new things about yourself and others if you are willing to listen and learn. Your life may eventually become more fulfilling...you may find the familiar aches and pains are not so familiar anymore...you surely will notice a change in your appearance, and your body will learn how it is "supposed" to be - healthy.
If you are like a lot of others people, you want peace in your life and the world. Yoga won't pressure you to be something you are not. We are who we are...today. Tomorrow is another day...another moment...another lesson.
